Rwanda Cricket Association Announces Provisional National Team

Kigali – The Rwandan national cricket team has been preparing to compete in a tournament in Ghana from 24th to 27th February 2011. This will be the first time Rwanda is participating in a competition of the new and shorter version of the game known as Twenty20.

In this tournament, Rwanda is the top seed and other countries are Cameroon, Seychelles, The Ghambia, Mali, Morocco, Lesotho and St. Hellena. Preparations have been going on under the stewardship of Australian coach Adam Arnold and team manager Eddie Balaba.

The provisional squad of 19 has been trimmed from a pre-selected 32 cricketers and will eventually be reduced to 14 players to make the trip to Accra.

The team has a new captain in Eric Dusingizimana. 20-year old Eric has had an illustrious carrier on and off the pitch. The hard-hitting opening batsman who also keeps wickets for his club and country started playing cricket as recent as 2006. He immediately made an impact the following year with two man-of-the match awards in the season. In 2008, he made it into the national U19 and senior team and enjoyed international success with bat and gloves. Eric has a century to his name on the local scene and a best score of 87 runs on the international scene. RCA wishes Mr. Dusingizimana the best of luck.

After the selection Coach Adam had this to say: “This is a great pool of talent and skill that has potential to be a successful team”.
