Ethiopia - Omo Valley trip

After leaving Strawberry Fields we took a two day trip into the Omo Valley.  Our first day involved driving south towards Dimenka where we stopped to visit a local market and were able to see members of both the Hamar and Banar tribes.

Our afternoon was spent chewing chat and drinking local coffee inside a hut within a Hamar village.  It was extremely hot but fun.  Our afternoon concluded with a traditional dance ceremony that involves the women choosing a sexual partner from the dancing men.

The evening was spent in the town of Kaeffer.  Our guide took us to a local bar where the music was load enough to burst an eardrum.  We were welcomed by the locals who encouraged us to drink and dance with them.  It was a fun evening and a great way to end the day.

Overnight rain spoilt our second day.  The roads to Tumi (check this) were closed due to water damage so we had to settle for a visit to a Banar village on the way back to Konso.  It was short and disappointing day, however, it did allow us to catch an afternoon bus from Konso to Aber Minch, saving us an overnight stay in Konso.
